Estremadura

Estremadura is Portugal's biggest wine area and covers 60,000 hectares from north of Lissabon at the Atlantic ocean to Leiria.

It belongs to the oldest wine regions of Europe. Different red and white wines are produced here that belong to the best of Portugal. Already in the 19th century, many wines were exported to France. Being situated close to the ocean, the climate is balanced with dry summers and mild winters. The cool nights in autumn provide excellent conditions for Estremadura's white vines.

Predominant red grapes are Tempranillo, Merlot, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha
